Top Story: Commentary: The Other Side of the Story

A June article in the Daily Herald by Jake Griffin raised many eyebrows. Its focus was on how Chicago-area golf properties owned and operated by cities, villages, or county or forest preserve districts—municipal courses, if you will—are losing money. Who pays for these losses? The aforementioned article would suggest that you the taxpayer are on the hook for them. 

But why single out golf courses? Why not also speak to the benefits this local amenity provides? Why not mention other amenities provided through these tax authorities and illustrate how much money they cost or lose?

I want to set the record straight and look at this subject from a different view, not....
